KPMG is currently seeking a Manager/Senior Manager to join our Business Tax Services practice.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage engagement teams in the planning, execution, and delivery of designated M&A Tax consulting projects, specifically legal entity rationalization projects and group restructurings, debt modifications and workouts, and cancellation of debt income and attribute reduction modeling analyses
- Advise external and internal clients on the federal income tax consequences of the full spectrum of corporate and shareholder transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, formations, liquidations, distributions, redemptions, and reorganizations, with particular emphasis on impacts to funds and fund investors
- Advise external and internal clients on US income tax implications of acquisition, restructuring, and disposition transactions to fund partnerships and various categories of fund partners, including US taxables, US tax-exempts, non-US persons, and sovereign wealth funds
- Research and analyze corporate and consolidated return tax issues in connection with the preparation, review, and delivery of written tax advice such as technical memoranda, tax opinion letters, and private letter ruling requests
- Train, motivate, and develop staff, senior, and manager level members on all facets of the practice, including application of current and new/developing tax laws, engagement processes, risk management policies, engagement economics, and new business development
- Deliver high quality tax service and advice to clients and assess tax impact on clients, develop tax arguments to support conclusions, and suggest plans to clients
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Manager:
- Team with other professionals to identify new marketplace opportunities and grow the KPMG tax practice
- Manage a portfolio of clients of varying size and scope and act as the first point of contact for internal and external clients
Qualifications:
- A minimum of five years of tax experience in the financial services industry supporting registered investment funds and alternative investments (investment partnership and or mutual fund tax experience), with particular focus on M&A tax consulting
- Previous experience as a tax manager with a public accounting firm
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university; licensed CPA or J.D./LL.M. (Please note that any candidate hired by KPMG into this position that doesn’t currently possess one of the aforementioned credentials/designations will be required to secure one within one year from the commencement of employment)
- Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships and transactions
- Demonstrated leadership ability and the ability to manage multiple engagements and client service teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex financial information and excellent computational analysis skills
Additional Qualifications for a Senior Manager:
- A minimum of eight years of tax experience in the financial services industry supporting registered investment funds and alternative investments (investment partnership and/or mutual fund tax experience), with particular focus on M&A tax consulting
- Experience mentoring and counseling staff-level team members and managing client relationships
