KPMG is currently seeking a Senior Manager to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in multi-state alternative investment firms (hedge fund, fund to funds, private equity, real estate) with state and local tax issues including compliance, advising, planning, and controversies. Analyze state tax considerations and impacts related to business restructuring projects and intercompany transactions
- Participate in multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing the client at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests
- Review information presented on state income tax returns before, during, and after preparation
- Participate in KPMG audit teams with review and analysis of state tax-related income and balance sheet items
- Research and draft technical memoranda regarding income and franchise tax questions
- Supervise, mentor, and develop staff
Qualifications:
- A minimum of eight years of experience in providing tax research and technical advice on multi-state issues
- Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field of study from an accredited college/university
- CPA, JD/LLM or MST (Masters in Taxation) or completion of an advanced degree or professional designation: MPAD (Masters of Public Administration), MSRE (Masters of Science-Real Estate, MCRP (Masters of City and Regional Planning), MPP (Masters in Public Policy), MUA (Masters in Urban Affairs) OR CECD (Certified Economic Developer), EDFP (Certified Economic Development Finance Professional) (Please note that any candidate hired by KPMG into this position that doesn’t currently possess one of the aforementioned credentials/designations will be required to secure one within one year from the commencement of employment)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, SQL Server, XML, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, or process mapping software and strong technical awareness and basic knowledge of global indirect tax issues
- Strong knowledge of the development, planning, and execution of sales and transactions tax refund claims
- Experience with various other corporate taxes and their impact on sales tax
